GPUs are cheap right now, but don’t be tempted just yet

If you lived through the madness that was the GPU shortage, you might be tempted by the current graphics card prices. Don’t be.

We just got another sign that Nvidia might be releasing an update to the RTX 40 Super soon, and with three new GPUs due out next month, better options could be just around the corner that could reshape the entire GPU landscape in terms of pricing. .

There has been a lot of talk about the upcoming RTX 4070 Super, RTX 4070 Ti Super and RTX 4080 Super. Although Nvidia itself has not yet said anything about the matter, it is preparing to hold a special keynote at CES 2024 January 8th, so the confirmation can only be a short three weeks. Now, Home posted some predictions for when the three GPUs might come out once they’re announced. Take this with a healthy dose of skepticism, of course, although even if the dates don’t match up exactly, it’s likely that we’ll see all three cards in the first quarter of 2024.

Do not miss:

The first card to come out is rumored to be the RTX 4070 Super, which is rumored to hit shelves on January 17th. According to speculation, the RTX 4070 Ti Super will follow on January 24, and finally the RTX 4080 Super should be released. a week later – January 31.

Of course, the specifications of all these cards remain unconfirmed. It was initially predicted that we would get a significant upgrade with the RTX 4070 Super and RTX 4080 Super, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. According to VideoCardzThe RTX 4070 Super will have 7,168 CUDA cores (versus 5,888 on excellent RTX 4070) and keep the same 12GB memory configuration.

The RTX 4070 Ti Super is shaping up to be the most interesting addition to the lineup, as it’s the only card that’s reportedly getting more VRAM and switching to a different GPU. The RTX 4070 Ti Super is rumored to have an AD103-275 GPU, 8,448 CUDA cores and 16GB of VRAM – a significant increase over 4070 If (12GB). These specs put it much closer to the RTX 4080 than the RTX 4070 Ti.

Finally, the RTX 4080 Super gets a boost in core count, maxing out the AD103 chip with 10,240 CUDA cores. It is also said to retain 16GB of VRAM. If these specs hold up, we’re looking at a really small upgrade over the current one RTX 4080. Maybe Nvidia will use this as an opportunity to correct the fact that the 4080 is a pretty terrible value and come up with a price adjustment this time.

Whether these three new GPUs become an instant hit depends on price. Nvidia is known for its reckless pricing strategy, so it’s hard to hope for huge discounts. However, it’s still worth waiting for the January 8 announcement. It’s possible that after the Super refresh, the older models will see some price reduction, and even if not, you could get something better for the same or similar price. The GPUs that are currently available shouldn’t go up in price, but they could go down, so waiting until the new year really makes sense.
