The Porsche Taycan and GT3 RS dropped the two records on the Buddha like it was hot

Porsche has a few new feathers in its cap thanks to a pair of wheels at the Buddh International Circuit. The cars that set the records were the Taycan Turbo S and the 911 GT3 RS.

Both were driven by Narain Karthikeyan who is a bit of an expert on the track as it was his own record that he broke that day. As the first Indian F1 driver, he is no slouch even on the tracks of the rest of the world.

For starters, Karthikeyan created an electric bike record in Porsche Taycan Turbo S. Now faster to its maximum speedthe car clocked an impressive 2:10.313 on the 3.1-mile (5.1 km) circuit, which hosted the Indian Grand Prix from 2011 to 2013.

“I can’t believe how fast this thing is speeding up. Driving is also fantastic. It is so accurate and has great feedback, which allows me to position the car precisely on the track,” said Karthikeyan. “Driving electric cars is now much more enjoyable and the fun factor in cars like this Taycan Turbo S is right there. I think the performance EV has a bright future.”

However, the driver’s fastest lap was set in a Porsche 911 GT3 RS. It became the first ever production vehicle to clock a sub-two-minute track time with a lap of 1:59.854. In doing so, he defeated the previous one lap recordwhich Karthikeyan planted in the 911 GT2 RS in 2019.

He claimed that the power of the naturally aspirated 4.0-litre engine (518bhp/386kW/525hp) and its strong focus on aerodynamics was what allowed it to pick up a lot of pace. His record lap time of 155 mph (250 km/h) on the straights comes as no surprise.

“At the back of the circuit, the GT3 RS will come into its own and in the long D and fast corners, I think it must be 20-25 km/h faster than the GT2 RS,” said Karthikeyan. “That’s why you get a lot of time. It’s a belt gun, it handles fantastically. I’m a big fan of Porsche, they’ve done a great job with this car.”
