Finally, there’s a Tesla-connected electric vehicle that can be piloted on water. No it is not Cybertruckit’s the Blue Innovations Group (BIG) R30, a new yacht that hit the waves in public for the first time this weekend.

The ship was launched on December 16 in St. Petersburg, Florida, where the company is based. It will provide “the best boating experience”, says John Vo, founder and CEO of BIG. Before embarking on the high seas, Vo was Tesla’s head global production.

“The R30 was designed from the ground up. We threw away the playbook that most boat builders follow because if you squint at a boat show, most boats look the same,” Vo said. “The R in R30 stands for Revolution, we decided to offer something radically different, radically better.”

The electric yacht is equipped with 221 kWh battery pack which weighs 10,000 lb (4,536 kg) and is powered by two engines with a combined output of 800 PS (596 kW/811 hp), which gives it a target top speed of 72 km/h. In addition, it comes with an integrated user interface and solar charging capability to make it the first all-electric cabin cruiser of its kind.

Measuring 30 feet (nine meters) in length, BIG bills R30 as an ideal vessel for friends and families who want to enjoy the water. To that end, it has a “folding ocean deck” that extends to allow for more deck space. There is also a kitchenette, a fridge, air conditioning and a bathroom with a bidet.

First unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show earlier this year, those interested in the R30 can reserve one for $1,000. If they want to be one of the first 100 to get R30, they can pay for a “BIG Reserve” which costs $5,000.

Production of the yacht is set to begin in the third quarter of 2024 (not Q2 as originally suggested) and is priced at $300,000.
